Mexican Terracotta

by Mark on August 31, 2009

First things first. Prior to grouting you must pre-seal. Using a water based pre-seal apply via a bucket using a lambs wool applicator. Thoroughly soak all tiles. Grout cleaning becomes so much easier in the clean up. The tiler will grout tomorrow so I’ll be back 2 days after to clean and sea.

Limestone

by Mark on August 27, 2009

Been really busy quoting and running around lately. The immediate future is certainly looking on the up.

I am working on a large external limestone cleaning and sealing job. As you can see by the photo I suspect the limestone was never sealed. The mould and bacteria has really taken over. The owner of the house is only here periodically so the work had been left to do far too late.

Firstly we pre cleaned with chlorine 1 part to water 3 parts and left it for awhile. We then had to lightly gerni blast to remove all the mould. This took all day but the stone must be perfectly clean.

Sandstone, Terracotta tiles

by Kirstin on August 26, 2009

Had a few quotes to do.
Firstly had to do samples to show finish. the sandstone tiles had been sealed with a coating sealant, many times by the previous owner for 18 years. To do the sample, I had to apply a stripper and scrub twice. Then scrubbed with a sandstone cleaner, then neutralized with S4S. [...]

Porous Stone-Sandstone, Terracotta, Pavers

by Kirstin on August 24, 2009

On new surfaces the initial pre seal is very important. Prior to grouting , the tiles need to be pre-sealed. Usually a water  based pre-seal works well. This ensures complete clean up of all grout which smears into the porous surface of the tiles. After grouting you then need to use an acid based cleaner [...]

Sandstone Tiles

by Kirstin on August 21, 2009

Great job this one. Newly laid sandstone 900 x 900 tiles just grouted. Would of been fantastic to have pre –sealed  these sandstone tiles prior to grouting.
Two reasons I say this-
1. Easy to clean job for tilers.
2.Easy to remove any excess grout.
First we used a speciality acid and detergent based product to remove excess [...]

Marble Jobs

by Mark on August 17, 2009

Over the past 4 weeks I have been to a few jobs that have to be done in sections. I’m not a big fan on doing work in parts but it was necessary. On one job there were three large indoor/ outdoor fire places. They had to have the scaffold removed after sealing. It was [...]
