Anti slip

by Mark on May 28, 2009

Friends called the other day to hint that they heard I had anti-slip treatment for floors. They said there pool area was like an ice skating rink when wet! Being a pool area with 4 kids would be almost the whole time. The anti-slip I use is a semi permanent that if maintained correctly will last easily 5 years. The anti slip is mopped on small sections at a time, ensuring you keep the surface wet with the anti slip at all times. I  Checked after 20 mins to see if this was the desired anti slip required. It wasn’t, so another 20 mins lapsed and  with this time a great result. We used S4S mopped on to neutralize and clean then wet vacuumed up the remainder. We then hosed the surface and wet vacuumed dry again. The result was a great anti slip finish.

Note: The anti-slip will change the look of the tiles and matt them back to a less shiny finish.  But really at the end of the day its safety you want for your family and friends.

Marble Refurbish Finished

by Mark on May 25, 2009

We finally finished all the P1040435 marble polishing. The floors came up brilliantly. Its definitely a two man job. After polishing 1m2 at a time for at least 2 minutes, its imperative that the polishing paste is vacuumed up of all waste then immediately neutralized. We used S4S as an effective neutralizer. After thoroughly cleaning the 1m2 then this waste is vacuumed as well. Next, we re-grouted all the grout joints. Once again a very important step to ensure the job is done properly.

After leaving 2 days for the grout to cure sufficiently its time for the clean & seal. We used a slow speed cleaning machine with S4S mixed at 20 parts water to 1 part S4S. Once again ensuring all waste is cleaned properly. The waste is vacuumed up. Once all the floors were finished we allowed time for them to dry. We then buffed any missed mess with a white pad on the buffing machine. The floors looked fantastic (see photo). We then sealed the floors (and grout joints) it took two coats of marble sealant. After about one hour we buffed the floors again to remove excess sealant. ‘If there is no excess sealant then you haven’t used enough’. The last step is to remove old silicone from wall edges and re silicone with fresh silicone. This will ensure the job is finished properly.

Note: This refurbishment took way longer than expected. The reason for this was when using the 320 grit sander, the marble was harder than first anticipated and we used at least 4 x more 320 grit than expected, but the results speak for themselves. The floors look like new with a mirror finish.  It is no use doing a job in half measures and the effort of our hard work is rewarded  with a first class job that we are proud of.

Travertine Ensuite

by Kirstin on May 20, 2009

I pre-sealed a travertine ensuite 3 days ago. This was done prior to grouting. The pre-seal will prevent the grout sticking to the porous stone.
We cleaned the travertine ensuite with S4S and wet vac dried. Looked great.
We then sealed the tiles with 2 coats of a top quality sealant x2 coats. We buffed the excess. [...]

Travertine walls and floors

by Kirstin on May 8, 2009

I had to clean approximately 200m2 of travertine walls and floor tiles today. Excess sealer was left on them and not buffed off. Too late to buff now. Weeks have gone past since it was done. The problem is that dust and dirt has stuck to the excess sealer on the tiles. I had to [...]
