Travertine Tiles

by Mark on September 23, 2009

About 90m2 of travertine tiles to clean and seal. It was a new job so no marks or stains to remove.

The travertine was natural so not factory filled.

The tiles are laid then when grouting, the grout is used to fill the natural holes. Firstly, razor scrap all of the tiles. This removes the excess grout and any foreign matter. You can then only wash with Ph neutral detergents. We used S4S marble cleaner at 1 part to 8 – 10 parts water. The grout joints didn’t need scrubbing so that’s always a bonus with new work. We methodically made our way around the room and wet vac as we go. Never allow solution to dry on surface. If you do the dirt etc gets back into the pores. Rewash if this occurs. When dry, 2 coats of a good quality sealer will do the trick. Wait 1 hour then wipe any excess or buff with a white pad on the poly vac machine if you have one.

Limestone cleaning and sealing

by Kirstin on August 18, 2009

Started once again on time at 7.00am (I’m never late). Finished removing all the wax off the tiles, S4S cleaned and dried about 50ml total was used for lounge, Dining room, bathroom floors and walls.

Now we are back at the Limestone cleaning and sealing job we “ Gold marble cleaned” yesterday. S4S scrubbed the travertine around the pool and the 2 x bathrooms and kitchen floor. Left it to dry.

Back to the porcelain job to seal the rest of the job, then back to Limestone/travertine job to seal that up.

By the way S4S works great indoors and outdoors, not just a marble cleaning product but a very versatile stone cleaning product.

By the end of the day both jobs cleaned and sealed and buffed. Fantastic and both clients very satisfied.

The travertine job is now completed. We used two coats of sealant then after 1 hour we commenced buffing the floor. It came up great. I left a 1ltr S4S with the client and explained the uses that S4S can do. She was very happy that there was no bad chemicals mixed in and when [...]

Started a clean and seal of travertine today. 5 x bedrooms, laundry , study and large entry. It was left pretty clean after the builders. First we mixed the S4S with water  at about 8/1. I used the polivac machine to sand the floors and then used a doodle bug to scrub the walls. Apart [...]

Travertine Ensuite

by Kirstin on May 20, 2009

I pre-sealed a travertine ensuite 3 days ago. This was done prior to grouting. The pre-seal will prevent the grout sticking to the porous stone.
We cleaned the travertine ensuite with S4S and wet vac dried. Looked great.
We then sealed the tiles with 2 coats of a top quality sealant x2 coats. We buffed the excess. [...]

Travertine walls and floors

by Kirstin on May 8, 2009

I had to clean approximately 200m2 of travertine walls and floor tiles today. Excess sealer was left on them and not buffed off. Too late to buff now. Weeks have gone past since it was done. The problem is that dust and dirt has stuck to the excess sealer on the tiles. I had to [...]
